The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a fantastic book, and has produced two fantastic films in both Sweden and America. Unfortunately, Sweden would receive two sequels following the book franchise Millenium, with America being left out to dry. We finally received news that the American series will have a sequel, and the main character, Lisbeth Salander, has officially been cast. Claire Foy will be taking on the role of the titular character, according to Variety. Foy is most well-known for playing Queen Elizabeth in the Netflix series The Crown, for which she is nominated for an Emmy and has received a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award.
The Girl In the Spider’s Web will be the first film in the series to be released in America first, with every other film being released in Sweden first. The film is the fourth book in the series created by Stieg Larsson, who unfortunately passed away before any of his books were released. He is responsible for the first three books in the franchise, which all have had successful film adaptations. Weirdly enough, the American series will not continue the series in chronological order, after beginning with the first book and moving on to the fourth.
The film is being directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), and will begin production in January in Brie and Stockholm, Sweden. The film has a current release date of October 19, 2018.
