Cinematic Box Office Achievement Award: ‘Wicked’ Takes Honor At 2025 Golden Globes

This year’s Golden Globes is said to make history with the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award, which is going to honor Universal Pitcures’ Wicked. The award is said to be given to Wicked due to the outstanding financial and cultural impact of the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical which is proven to be a global phenomenon. 

Hollywood Reporter details the award going to Wicked, which “celebrates films that have achieved significant box office success while resonating deeply with audiences worldwide.” Wicked is said to check all boxes for this award due to the record-breaking opening weekend and continued dominance at the global box office. Universal Pictures says, “The film’s success is a testament to the enduring magic of its story and the unparalleled talent behind it.”

Under Jon M. Chu’s direction, this 2 part adaptation of Wicked has gathered a huge audience with its cast, visuals, and themes kept from the hit musical, which are friendship and empowerment. The 2 part movie features Cynthia Erivo and Elphaba and Ariana Grande (credited by her full name Ariana Grande-Butera) as Glinda, and their performances have been globally praised. 

This new award section of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement highlights films that go beyond commercial success by creating a lasting cultural legacy. Hollywood Reporter states, “This award reflects the evolving landscape of cinema, where box office performance and cultural relevance intertwine”.

The 2025 Golden Globes also celebrate other cinematic achievements but still reveal that Wicked’s groundbreaking win is a shift in how the industry recognizes success, which magical storytelling and universal appeal of the film continue to redefine the meaning of blockbuster achievements. 

Wicked: For Good will be released on November 21st, 2025.
