After the announcements of major theater chains AMC and Regal delaying reopening dates, Cinemark has followed suit. The United State’s third largest exhibitor has adjusted its reopening schedule, with most theaters planned for a reopen date of July 24 showing a collection of classic movies at a discount, and new releases set to be shown starting July 31.
This new update comes after Regal parent Cineworld announced that the Regal reopening date would be pushed back until July 31. This past Monday, AMC, the world’s largest exhibition chain, said that it was rescheduling its reopening to July 30. These readjustments have been in response to changes amid the coronavirus pandemic, with some states experiencing sharp increases in cases after reopening businesses.
“Our multi-phased reopening plan was thoughtfully designed with multiple contingencies in place that enable us to efficiently adapt to today’s ever-changing environment. We continue to pay close attention to status of the virus, local mandates and availability of new content while prioritizing the health and safety of our guests, employees and communities,” Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi said in a statement.
Upon July 31, moviegoers will be able to see new release Unhinged, starring Russell Crowe. Next to be released is The Broken Hearts Gallery on August 7, followed by Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on August 12, Disney’s Mulan on August 21, Bill & Ted Face the Music on August 28. On September 4, A Quiet Place Part II will be available to ticket buyers.
Once reopened, the company will implement what it calls The Cinemark Standard, stating that the safety and health of “guest, employees and communities is a top priority.” This new standard will set a higher level of cleanliness in theaters, including increased sanitizing and safety measures. A Chief Clean and Safety Monitor on duty will also be designated to each Cinemark theater location.
