CinemaCon attendees got a preview of Ang Lee’s Gemini Man starring Will Smith, a film that has been years in the making. According to Variety, it was first acquired by Walt Disney Studios in 1997, but work on the film was delayed, due in part to the technical work that had to be done to achieve the plot line. Paramount later took on the project from Disney.
The action movie has Smith’s character being pursued by an enemy in a European city. It is revealed later on that his follower is a younger version of himself. Both characters are given guidance by advisors who are played by Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Benedict Wong. It seems that Smith plays an assassin for the U.S. government.
In the trailer they were shown, audiences witnessed the CGI that was used to develop Smith’s younger self. It is said that the young character looked like Smith back when he began acting on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
The work that went into embodying both characters was seen as “daring” since Smith had to showcase different aspects to differentiate the two. Paramount will be releasing the movie in October of this year, which means that an official trailer should be expected this summer.
