In a recent interview with the LA Times, Christopher Nolan praised Samantha Morton’s performance in The Odyssey. Nolan also discussed The Walking Dead and Minority Report actress received during the filming of The Odyssey. He said,
This was a massive film, and she is someone who comes in and changes the dynamic. In some weird way, the film lived or died over that character. She was the fulcrum. I’ve always admired Samantha’s work, she brings so much depth of thinking about her role, there are no limitations on her performance. After one of her takes, the crew gave her a great round of applause.
Nolan then goes on to discuss a conversation he had with his wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas, where they realized the only other time a similar reaction had occurred by the cast and crew during filming of one of Nolan’s films, saying
I was talking with Emma [Thomas] afterwards and she remembered that the last time that had happened was with Heath Ledger on The Dark Knight.
Morton’s performance is being similarly singled out with praise by critics, with one critic from the independent writing,
Samantha Morton damn well steals the show with the few scenes she’s in.
Audiences can see Samantha Morton’s performance in The Odyssey for themselves when the film releases in IMAX, IMAX 70mm, and other standard and premium large formats on July 17th.
