The passengers/inhabitants of the massive train/community look like they have a rough road ahead of them in the new Snowpiercer trailer. Likewise, the movie itself has been on a rough road getting to the U.S. You can read all about that here, here, and here. Oh, and also here. Long story (really) short: Korean director makes a movie with wide appeal, American studio thinks appeal isn’t wide enough, disputes over U.S. cut ensue.
As Bong Joon-ho’s dystopian thriller nears its Stateside release dates – June 11th at the Los Angeles Film Festival, followed by a June 25th release at BAMcinemaFest, then a limited release on June 27th – we get this new trailer which heavily features Chris Evans’ rebellious hero, Tilda Swinton’s fascistic villain, and generally sets up the plot.
From the LA Film Festival:
In this wild post-apocalyptic thriller, the planet has frozen, thanks to a botched attempt to reverse global warming, and all the surviving humans are packed aboard a self-sustaining train that endlessly circles the globe. But the train is rigidly divided by wealth and class, the downtrodden massed together in the rear and ripe for revolution. Led by Chris Evans, they begin to make their violent way to the front, where the master of the train awaits them. Is this science fiction, or an allegory of our times?
