Sony’s hoping it won’t take 17 more years to create another Bad Boys film, especially after the strong showing of Bad Boys For Life. The long awaited sequel, which not only saw surprisingly positive reviews but also the second greatest Martin Luther King weekend opening of all time in terms of domestic box office sales, has convinced Sony Pictures to go right ahead with another sequel according to Deadline.
It was confirmed by Sony on Friday that Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremner is slated to return to the next film and compile a script. Bremner was responsible for co-writing Bad Boys For Life alongside Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan. The aforementioned duo of Craig and Carnahan were initially assigned to direct Bad Boys For Life, the third installment to the Michael Bay franchise dating as far back as 1995.
Bad Boys For Life is currently on track of surpassing the initial box office projections for its opening debut over the holiday weekend. The film is expected to gross $63 million to $67 million by Monday, after initial predictions were aligned at $42 million to $45 million. In regards to a fourth installment, no further details have yet been released. Bad Boys For Life precedes the 1995 original and 2002’s Bad Boys II in 2002, both directed by Michael Bay.
