Chloe Grace Moretz and Sasha Lane have officially signed on to star in the upcoming adaptation of the 2012 novel The Miseducation of Cameron Post. Moretz is known for the Kick-Ass series and most recently The Fifth Wave, while newcomer Sasha Lane recently received strong reviews for American Honey with Shia LeBeouf.
The Miseducation of Cameron Post, originally written by Emily M. Danforth, tracks the journey of a 12 year-old girl as she grapples with the question of her sexuality, and following the sudden death of her parents, is forcibly sent by her aunt to a gay conversion therapy camp in Montana. The novel is said to have been based on the Zach Stark controversy in 2005, where a teenager posted an online post about a gay conversion camp his parents forced him to attend, sparking a national argument over such camps.
Desiree Akhavan, a bisexual Iranian-American actor/writer/director, will direct and co-write the indie drama with Cecilia Frugiuele. Akhavan is most well known for her 2014 feature film debut Appropriate Behavior.
The film will co-star Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), John Gallagher Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), and Forrest Goodluck (The Revenant).
Moretz can next be seen in Suspiria with Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, a horror/thriller about a young ballet dancer in the 1970s who goes to train in Berlin, while Lane can next be seen dark comedy Shoplifters of the World and the sci-fi Hunting Lila.
