‘Chicken Run 2’ Reportedly to Not Have Mel Gibson Return

In recent news, Chicken Run 2 is slated to be one of the next big stop motion animated films that Netflix is going to produce in upcoming years. The long awaited sequel is set to follow up the last film by continuing the story with Ginger and Rocky as they become parents. However, despite most of the cast being expected to return, there is one major star that is set not to appear in the upcoming film. Mel Gibson, who provided the voice for Rocky the Rooster in the first film is reportedly not reprising his role in the sequel.

The news to Gibson not returning to the film does not come as a huge surprise considering the controversy that has been occurring with the actor over the past few years. The actor has been criticized constantly for his anti-semantic and racist comments  that have been recorded in the past. While it has not been fully stated why Gibson will not be returning to the film, it can be assumed that his previous controversies have played a part in his departure from the sequel.

There have been no reports on who will be potentially replacing Gibson as the lovable Rocky the Rooster in this new upcoming sequel. However, the film is still early in development with production expecting to start in early 2021. Therefore a replacement actor for the character should be announced closer to the film’s production start date in 2021 and then we can witness Rocky and Ginger on another epic adventure 20 years in the making.

No release date has been set for Chicken Run 2.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
