Jon Favreau is putting together a strong cast for his new comedy, Chef, and that cast now includes Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman.

As we previously reported, Favreau has been hard at work preparing for his starring role in the film (which he also wrote and is direting). It seems that his choice of chef tutor Roy Choi, who started in the food truck business, was no coincidence. Favreau will spend time in some upscale kitchens, yes, but the plot centers on his firing. In a sort of midlife crisis, he starts a food truck. We’re betting this is of the gourmet variety (Choi’s background), and plenty of comedy ensues in Favreau’s difficulty adapting to this new style of life.
The now 75-year-old Hoffman has been keeping a little quiet lately. His only work last year was directing Quartet, starring Maggie Smith (Harry Potter, Downton Abbey) and Billy Connolly (Brave, The Boondock Saints). On the radar are only Kung-Fu Panda 3 and a couple script attachments still deep in development, making Chef the only time to see Hoffman in the near future.
Chef hits theaters May 9, 2014, which may seem like a bit of odd timing, but the star power of Favreau and Hoffman, not to mention the rest of the cast, with Scarlett Johansson, Sophia Vergara, Robert Downey, Jr., and John Leguizamo, should be able to carry it in the early part of busy summer movie season.
