A new trailer has surfaced for Rock the Kasbah, the upcoming rock and roll comedy starring Bill Murray (St. Vincent), Bruce Willis (The Expendables 2) and Kate Hudson (Wish I Was Here). The film, directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam), had a star-studded sneak preview last week in the Hamptons, with an after-party list of notables including Bruce Springsteen, Sir Paul McCartney and President Bill Clinton.
The script was written specifically for Murray by Mitch Glazer, whose connection to the actor stretches as far back as 1988’s Scrooged. Murray stars as Richie Lanz, a music manager whose career has seen better days. He signs on to manage a USO tour in Afghanistan, where thing go steadily from bad to worse until he discovers a teenage girl with an phenomenal voice. Lanz hopes to rehabilitate his flagging career by taking the girl to Kabul to compete on the popular television talent contest, Afghan Star, despite the threat of her death for having the courage to sing in public. The film is inspired by true events.
Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer), Scott Cann (TV’s Hawaii 5-0) and Danny McBride (This Is the End) help round out the all-star cast. Rock the Kasbah opens nationwide on October 23. Check out the new trailer below:
