Check Out the Trailer for ’45 Years’

The first trailer has arrived for 45 Years, one of the strongest critical favorites on the 2015 film festival circuit. Written and directed by Andrew Haigh (Weekend), the film stars Charlotte Rampling (Melancholia) and Tom Courtenay (Quartet) as a married couple nearing their 45th wedding anniversary.

Adapted from David Constantine’s short story, the story details the week leading up to a party celebrating the anniversary of Kate (Rampling) and Geoff (Courtenay). A letter arrives for Geoff alerting the body has been found his first love, frozen and preserved in the icy glaciers of the Swiss Alps. This startling news opens old wounds for Kate and Geoff. 45 Years has received nearly unanimous raves since premiering at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival this past February (the currently has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes). At Berlin, both Courtenay and Rampling were honored with Best Actor and Best Actress prizes. The film has since played the Telluride and Toronto film festivals.

Haigh previously directed the 2011 film Weekend, an acclaimed indie that examined a brief affair between two British men. He also produced the HBO series Looking and served as writer and director on several occasions. Prior to that, Haigh worked as an assistant editor on films including Gladiator (2000), Mona Lisa Smile (2005) and Kingdom of Heaven (2005).

Sundance Selects will release 45 Years on December 23, 2015. Check out the trailer below.
