Check Out the New Trailer for Sundance Documentary Winner ‘Dark Horse’

Sundance‘s World Cinema Documentary Award winner, Louise Osmond’s Dark Horse is an inspirational underdog story following a group of friends who band together against all odds to breed a racehorse.

From a small tight-knit mining community, the working-class “commoners” chip in to cover the high costs of their shared project, breaking into the expensive and elite sport of horseracing. They named their shared horse Dream Alliance, a meaningful name as it reflected both their hope and their collaboration.

One of the documentary’s subjects says about their racehorse: “”He always made me feel like somebody else for the day. I wasn’t Janet the cleaner anymore. I was Janet the racehorse owner,” Another owner adds, “It’s elation when you can do something — particularly when no one gives you a chance.”

Osmond told Indiewire “that she knew the first time she heard the story of Dream Alliance that she would do “pretty much anything to make it [into a documentary]. It was so funny and moving and life-affirming, a classic rags-to-riches tale.”

Dark Horse opens in theaters on May 6th. Check out the new trailer below:
