Shailene Woodley (Snowden) and Theo James (The Secret Scripture) reprise their roles as Tris and Tobias in The Divergent Series: Allegiant, the third installment in the young adult franchise.
When last we left them in Insurgent, Tris and Tobias were leading their group toward the walls that kept their society and their five factions (Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite) enclosed. The new trailer picks up where they left off, with the group rappelling down the high walls to make it to the other side, despite warnings from Naomi Watts’ (About Ray) character that the walls serve to protect and not just separate: “Those people out there kept us in a cage for 200 years. That is not someone I want to engage with.”
On the other side, Tris, Tobias, and their group are welcomed by Jeff Daniels’ (The Martian) new character and his organization. The group finds out they have been under surveillance. Daniels tells them they were testing a theory: “If we could rescue people from a toxic environment and put them in safe place like Chicago, perhaps they would heal it.” The group is told they are safe now, however Chicago will be destroyed. Now it is up to Tris and her small group to save the home they left behind the walls.
Miles Teller (Fantastic Four), Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver), and Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road) are also returning along with helmer Robert Schwentke (RED).
The Divergent Series: Allegiant is out in theaters on March 18, 2016. The final installment, Ascendant, is slated for March 24, 2017.
