Murray (St. Vincent) is hosting a Christmas variety show to be broadcast from New York’s storied Carlyle Hotel when the city is hit with a major snowstorm, effectively shutting down all modes of transportation. Murray fears that his planned A-list audience including such notables as Sir Paul McCartney, George Clooney (The Monuments Men) and Pope Francis won’t be able to navigate the storm, but, as they say, the show must go on. And on it goes, with Murray enlisting some famous friends like Paul Schaeffer, Amy Poehler (Inside Out), Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, and Jason Schwartzman to help him keep the holiday spirit alive. Clooney does eventually make an appearance, as does Miley Cyrus, sharing a duet with Murray on a jaunty rendition of ‘Sleigh Ride’.
A Very Murray Christmas reunites Murray with his Lost in Translation director Sofia Coppola (The Bling Ring), who co-wrote the script with Murray and his production partner Mitch Glazer. The special will be available for streaming on Netflix beginning December 4. Check out the holiday merriment in the trailer below.
