Sony Pictures Classics has announced a release date for Oscar nominated director Claudia Llosa‘s Aloft, a drama headlined by Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Connelly. The film, which premiered at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival has been making the festival rounds with stops in Rio in September 2014, Sundance in February 2015 and Tribeca in April 2015. It will premiere in limited release in the US on May 22nd.
The moody drama centers on an artist and mother (Connelly) reuniting with the son she abandoned years earlier (Inception‘s Cillian Murphy) and the dramatic effect it has on their lives. Mélanie Laurant (Inglourious Basterds, Beginners) portrays the journalist who facilitates the reunion.
Sony purchased the rights to the film in Berlin in 2014. The film is writer-director Llosa’s English-language debut. She previously won the Berlin Golden Bear top prize in 2009 with The Milk of Sorrow, which also scored an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 2010.
