A new Steven Spielberg film always comes with it certain set of expectations. His latest film may produce greater expectations than usual considering he’s adapting Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s novel The BFG to the big screen. The latest – and first full – trailer for the film has arrived and shows off not just the Big Friendly Giant of the title but also the fanciful Giant Country where both adventure and peril reside.
Sophie (played by newcomer Ruby Barnhill) is a young orphan girl who finds an unlikely friend in The BFG (recent Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Bridge of Spies) and with it an adventure of lifetime. The trailer, nearly Harry Potter-like visually, opens up the expansive world that informs Spielberg’s latest cinematic playground. Aside form Barnhill and Rylance, the ensemble cast in filled by Rebecca Hall (The Town), Bill Hader (Trainwreck), Jermaine Clement (People Places Things) and Penelope Wilton (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel). Late screenwriter Melissa Mathison (E.T.) penned the screenplay.
The BFG opens in theaters on July 1st. Check out the latest trailer below:
