The first trailer for Billy Ray’s (Breach) Secret in Their Eyes has premiered, highlighting a talented trio of stars in Julia Roberts (August Osage County), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), and Nicole Kidman (Paddington). The film follows a pair of FBI detectives who, along with a district attorney supervisor, see their world shaken when one of the detective’s daughters is found murdered.
The trailer for the film touches upon the long, winding, and often murky side of justice and should raise the same moral questions that the original film did for audiences.
Secret in Their Eyes is a remake of the 2009 Argentine film of the same name. That film, directed by Juan José Campanella (Underdogs), went on to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film.
Director Billy Ray also wrote the script for the film, a promising sign for fans of the original. Ray was nominated for an Oscar in the Adapted Screenplay category for 2013’s Captain Phillips. His last directing gig was the under-appreciated Breach back in 2007, but the filmmaker has kept busy with his writing, having also written the script for The Hunger Games in 2012.
Secret in Their Eyes will be released on October 23rd. Along with Roberts, Ejiofor, and Kidman, the film will include Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards) in supporting turns.
