Sony has released the first trailer for Jodie Foster’s (The Beaver) newest directorial effort, Money Monster, starring George Clooney (Hail Caesar!), Julia Roberts (Secret in Their Eyes), and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken).
The film follows a Lee Gates (Clooney) a television personality who gives stock market advice, similar to Jim Cramer, who predicts the success of a tech stock only to see it crash. Having lost all his money on this stock, Kyle Budwell (O’Connell) breaks onto the set of the show and holds Gates hostage with an explosive vest. Roberts plays the show’s producer, Patty Fenn. The trailer alludes to the film offering social commentary on the culture of Wall Street and that there might be a larger conspiracy involved with the stock that drives Budwell to his actions.
Money Monster is the fourth film directed by Foster and the first since she directed 2011’s family drama, The Beaver. In between her film work, Foster directed episodes of Netflix’s House of Cards as well as Orange is the New Black. She hasn’t appeared in a film since 2013’s Elysium.
Money Monster releases May 13, 2016. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer below.
