With this year’s Comic-Con bringing a new trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, leaked footage from Suicide Squad, and confirmation that Ben Affleck will write and direct a standalone Batman film, movie fans have a lot to look forward to in 2016 and beyond. However, there were also new developments regarding a small movie set in a galaxy far, far away, that happens to be hitting theaters this December.
Disney has released new behind-the-scene footage for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The video opens with a series of clapperboards in front of on-location sets, as well as the entrance of the Millennium Falcon, a TIE fighter model used for filming, and the shot of Stormtroopers we previously saw in the first trailer. Over this, Mark Hamill (Kingsman: The Secret Service) talks about the film’s production, using phrases like “real sets,” and “practical effects.”
If it wasn’t clear already, this is a huge part of Disney’s marketing campaign, to separate it from the nearly all-digital prequels, as the video shows explosions in the desert and actors – Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation) among them – in actual creature costumes. The other actors new to the franchise also making appearances includes Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina), Daisy Ridley (Scrawl), John Boyega (Attack the Block), and Domhnall Gleeson (About Time).
Along with getting fans amped up for the film – as if they needed any help – the footage also makes it clear how in-control Disney is of the marketing for the movie, and that they have an airtight plan for how they are going to share information leading up to the December 18 release date.
In the meantime, you can check out the footage below.
