Charlize Theron is joining the Nolan-verse. The Oscar winner is the latest A-list talent to join Christopher Nolan‘s new feature. She joins the star-studded cast of Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Anne Hathaway. Universal Pictures had no comment on the casting.
Nolan wrote the script and will direct the project, which Universal will distribute. The studio has set a release date of July 17, 2026. Plot details are still being kept under wraps. Nolan is also producing the film alongside producing partner and wife Emma Thomas for their Syncopy banner.
Sources say Damon, Holland, Hathaway, and Pattinson make up the feature’s core leads, while Nyong’o and Zendaya are said to have supporting roles.
This new feature reunites Nolan with the studio that made his Oscar-winning drama Oppenheimer. The film earned a staggering $976 million and won seven Oscars including best picture, directing, cinematography, actor in a leading role, and actor in a supporting role. Oppenheimer was the first time the filmmaker worked with Universal, a relationship forged after Nolan publicly split with longtime partner Warner Bros. in late 2020. While Oppenheimer was picked up by Universal in an open auction setting, this new project ended up going straight to the studio, according to sources.
Theron, who is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson, was last in theaters with Fast X and will next appear in the sequel to Netflix’s The Old Guard.
