Kerry Washington and Charlize Theron have officially joined the cast for Netflix’s The School For Good and Evil. The film is based off of Soman Chainani’s popular YA book series of the same name. Washington and Theron will be joining alongside Sofia Wylie and Sophia Ann Caruso.
Director Paul Freig took to Twitter on Friday to announce that Theron will portray Lady Lesso and Washington will portray Professor Dovey in the film, which was adapted by screenwriters David Magee and Laura Solon. According to Deadline, The film will tell the story of best friends Sophie (Caruso) and Agatha (Wylie), who attend the School for Good and Evil, “…where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains”. With her princess ambitions, Sophie believes she will be chosen for the School for Good and join popular students such as Cinderella and Snow White. Agatha on the other hand, with her dark clothing and creepy cat, seems to belong to the villains in the School for Evil. To their surprise, the girls find their fortunes reversed.
Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Jane Startz, and Laura Fischer are producers. Executive producers are Zack Roth, Patricia Riggen and Chainani. The School For Good and Evil is the first book in Chainani’s series, which has sold over 2.5 million copies.
