Jason Orley, director of the 2019 coming-of-age comedy Big Time Adolescence, has new project on his hands with Amazon Studios and an already stacked cast that includes It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Charlie Day, Parks and Recreation’s Jenny Slate, Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez and Pacific Rim: Uprising’s Scott Eastwood. I Want You Back was written by Love, Simon co-writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.
The rest of the cast includes The Good Place star Manny Jacinto, Letterkenny actress Clark Backo, The Lost Boys’ Jami Gertz, Jordan Carlos, Good Boys’ Midori Francis, Isabel May, and The King of Staten Island’s Luke David Blumm.
The film’s story centers around a woman named Emma and a man named Peter, who are both dumped by their respective partners right before their relationships reach a new level of commitment. Terrified of being single in their thirties and worried they’ll never be happy again, the two hatch a plan to ruin their former significant other’s relationships and win them back.
“It’s a dream to be able to bring Isaac and Elizabeth’s brilliantly authentic vision to the world! It will surely capture the hearts of our Prime Video customers,” said Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke. “We couldn’t be more excited to see this amazing ensemble come aboard this fun and witty story that audiences will fall in love with.”
The film will be Orley’s second time as a director. His previous film, which starred Pete Davidson and Griffin Gluck, was received very positively from critics and audiences when it released in 2019.
“I immediately fell in love with Isaac and Elizabeth’s funny, heartfelt script,” said Orley. “I am so honored that they, along with the amazing team at Amazon are allowing me to bring their timeless love story to life and that I get to do it with such an incredible group of actors.”
