Charles Melton, most recently known for his Emmy-nominated role in the second season of the Netflix series Beef, is said to be in talks to join the cast of Destin Daniel Cretton’s live-action Naruto film as Kakashi. Melton’s other roles include the popular TV series Riverdale and his acclaimed supporting role in Todd Haynes’s May December. Other recent film roles include the war movie Warfare and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell.
The film is a live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series of the same name. Charles Melton is said to be in talks to play Kakashi Hatake, a mentor figure to the titular Naruto. The role of Naruto has still not been announced.
Destin Daniel Cretton will be directing this Naruto film, with it set to be the director’s next film after directing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which recently became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, making $2 billion worldwide. Cretton will also be producing the film with Jeyun Munford through Cretton’s production company, Hisako. Additionally, Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Emmy Yu will produce through Arad Productions. Lionsgate will release the film.
Production on this live-action Naruto movie is reportedly targeting a February 2027 start.
