Channing Tatum Announces ‘Gambit’ Release Date

Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street) recently announced via Twitter the release date for his upcoming turn as the cajun mutant in Gambit. The film, according to the actor, is set to release on October 7, 2016 and will be the third X-Men movie next year.

Tatum was confirmed to star in movie last spring when Fox announced their slate of upcoming entries in the X-Men franchise. Another character-specific film, Deadpool, will release in 2016 along with X-Men: Apocalypse, the sequel to 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Tatum is the second actor to play the kinetic, card-throwing mutant. Taylor Kitsch (Lone Survivor) played him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Fox likely sought to replace Kitsch after that film wasn’t as well received as the previous entries. However, Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool in the same movie will be playing the wise-cracking vigilante in his own movie.

Tatum will be seen next in the sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascendingwhich hits theaters next month, as well as this summer’s Magic Mike XXL, and Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, which come out next fall.
