The poster for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film Challengers has dropped along with a release date of April 26, 2024. The Zendaya-led romantic comedy follows Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a tennis coach caught in a tense entanglement between her tennis champion husband Art, portrayed by West Side Story‘s Mike Faist, and an old flame– Patrick, played by The Crown‘s Josh O’Connor.
With an original release date of September 15, 2023, the film was postponed seven months due to the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike. With its extended time, Challengers has gotten more attention for its anticipated release along with the buzz over Zendaya’s starring role.
Zendaya recently teased fans with a poster reveal on an Instagram post with the caption, “Wishing you all the most beautiful year.” Fans noted its ‘80s homage and some even compared it to the 1983 Tom Cruise film Risky Business. Side by side, both posters feature their leading stars with close-up of their faces wearing sunglasses in a retro ‘comic-book’ style design. The poster was also shared on X and received other comparisons, being called a “Mondo/Gallery 1988 meets THE CRUSH and LOLITA.’”
Challengers is written by playwright and novelist Justin Kuritzkes (The Sensuality Party) and produced by Zendaya, Guadagnino, Amy Pascal, and Rachel O’Connor.
