It’s a good month for anime with Chainsaw Man – The Reze Arc scoring a whopping $17.25 million for its domestic premiere, for the genre’s most recent win. The film serves as a midpoint in the larger Chainsaw Man series, an adaptation of the popular manga of the same name. Chainsaw Man follows a human turned half-demon with chainsaws for hands and a head as he tries to live life to the fullest after a near-death experience and finally get a girlfriend, the safe-for-work description at least. Chainsaw Man has been out for some weeks internationally, though, having racked up an impressive current total of $108 million for its complete box office haul. Phone up the absolutely daunting $700 million of Demon Slayer Infinity Castle released earlier this month, there are still no numbers to scoff at what was previously an almost unknown genre in the US.
Coming in second was Black Phone 2 with $13 million in its sophomore outing, just managing to beat newcomers Regretting You and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
Regretting You came in third with $12.85 million just trailing behind Black Phone 2 and well it has performed better in its initial estimate, Regretting You is suffering from much harsher reviews from critics and audiences and will likely not see the same success it’s predecessor Colleen Hoover’s first film adoption It Ends With Us saw, though if Regretting You manages to hold its own this may be the start of a cinematic Hoover-verse with more adaptations of the best sellers coming to screens.
While spooky season has almost come to a close, there’s still some scares to be had. Such as another victim of the 2025 brutal October Box Office. To reiterate, aside from anime, almost every major film from studios, including some highly anticipated larger indie productions, has underperformed at the domestic box office this month. While 2025’s October collective total is still 4% higher than 2024’s, 2025’s had far more major releases compared to 2024, which was held up by Marvel’s best-performing film in 2024 and multiple smaller releases appealing to the wider audiences that didn’t need to break out massive numbers for breaking even. October 2025 came stacked with Oscar hopefuls and big-budget tentpoles that just were not able to command the audiences into staying like the summer blockbusters were. As a result, 2025 is about 20% lower than prepandemic years.
Disney and 20th Century Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is the latest misfire, with $9.1 million for its opening weekend. While critics were not heaping on praise, audiences have shown far more favor to the distinctive film that focuses entirely on a single time in Springsteen’s life, the writing of the Nebraska album. So only time will tell if this unique biopic will make a comeback.
This week, Tron: Ares came in fifth with $4.9 million and may see itself pulled early if its steep plummeting continues. Though it’s still managed to pull ahead of Good Fortune, which saw $3.1 million for its second week, landing in sixth.
Seventh went to an indie horror film and the directorial debut of popular film critic Chris Stuckmann of YouTube, with Shelby Oaks distribution, which is being handled by Neon, marking another successful foray with $2.35 million for its premiere despite a worrisome C+ on CinemaScore. Only word of mouth from horror fans will tell if Shelby Oaks will soar higher.
Eighth place went to One Battle After Another, which is probably the most notable bomb of October 2025 after Tron in its 5th week. It only saw $2.33 million and is currently sitting at a domestic grand total of $65.78 million, which is nowhere near close to the foothold it needed to establish for it to make its budget back.
Ninth went to Roofman this week with $2 million in its third outing and is sitting happy at $19.36 million for now.
Tenth this week was Truth & Treason with $933K in its second week.
Another notable for this week, though, is the preview of Bugonia, which despite only being in 17 theaters raked in $690k; its wider release is planned for next week.
