Chadwick Boseman, star of this year’s blockbuster hits Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, will star in and produce STXfilms’ action-thriller 17 Bridges. Boseman is joined by his writing and producing partner Logan Coles, while Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo will produce. Brian Kirk (Luther, Game of Thrones) will direct from a script written by Adam Mervis (The Philly Kid).
“STX has assembled a dream team of collaborators on 17 Bridges, bringing together the global talents behind two of the biggest action films ever made to give audiences a thrilling new take on the race against the clock crime-drama,” said Adam Fogelson, Chairman of STXfilms. “Chadwick Boseman’s razor-sharp instincts and undeniable charisma captivated millions of people around the world in Black Panther, and Joe and Anthony Russo have breathed a new energy into the action genre with films like Avengers: Infinity War. Their unique and intelligent approach to filmmaking is anything but formulaic, and with Brian Kirk at the helm directing, this film promises to go beyond the typical popcorn fare.”
17 Bridges follows a disgraced NYPD detective (Boseman) who is given a chance at redemption when he’s thrust into a citywide manhunt for a cop killer. The film goes into production in September of this year. 17 Bridges is the latest action release announced from STXfilms, who is currently promoting Peter Berg’s Mile 22, which launches on August 17 and stars Mark Wahlberg and John Malkovich.
In addition to playing King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and the upcoming untitled 4th Avengers film, Boseman has starred in 42, Get on Up, Message from the King and Marshall. After the record-setting success of Black Panther, it’s only a matter of time before Black Panther 2 is added to his resume as well.
