After comedically conquering Washington D.C. as the host of this past weekend’s White House Correspondents Dinner, Saturday Night Live‘s Cecily Strong is joining the cast of Melissa McCarthy‘s upcoming Universal comedy Michelle Darnell according to Deadline.
Strong will join a formidable cast that already includes Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Kathy Bates, Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Kristen Schaal (HBO’s Flight of the Conchords), and McCarthy herself. The film will center on a disgraced businesswoman (McCarthy) trying to rehabilitate her image after a stint in prison for insider trading. McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone (Tammy), is attached to direct. The script is based on a character that McCarthy conceived, and the script was written by McCarthy, Falcone, and their long-time collaborator from their Groundlings days, Steve Mallory.
The film is being produced by McCarthy and Falcone’s production company On the Day, with an assist from Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy under their Gary Sanchez banner.
Strong can next be seen in Relativity’s The Bronze, which was featured at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The Bronze is slated for a July 10th release. She’ll also re-team with McCarthy in the upcoming female reboot of Ghostbusters.
