Catch the Adrenaline-Fueled Trailer for ‘F9’

The first trailer for F9, our latest chapter in the Fast and the Furious franchise, dropped today and proves once again that this franchise somehow hasn’t run out of steam. And you better believe the film is about as anime-level bonkers as the past few entries, though probably not on par with Hobbes and Shaw… yet. Cars, sexy women, endless talk about “family,” a total defiance of physics- all the things that have kept Dom Toretto and friends chugging along.

The almost four-minute trailer begins with Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) raising their young son Brian (named after Paul Walker’s character, RIP) on a farm, seemingly at peace. Sadly, this peaceful existence is not to last, with Dom reluctantly stating “No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past. And mine just caught up to me.” Armed men show up at their farm and Dom has to ride off “one last time,” complete with the entire crew.

Their foes: Fate of the Furious hacker villain Cipher (Charlize Theron) and a new foe, a master thief and performance driver named Jakob, played by John Cena. He also happens to be Dom’s brother, if you can believe that. We get a whole bunch of family talk, some insane stunts, Tyrese Gibson yelling and Dom defying gravity by essentially bungie-swinging his car across a mountain pass. It’s stupid, inconceivable and I know I’m going to enjoy it.

Oh, and in a surprise twist, Han (Sung Kang) is still alive! Don’t ask me how, but this probably lets Deckard Shaw off the hook and satisfies the #JusticeforHan crew.

F9 will come out on May 22. Catch the trailer below:
