According to Deadline, Casey Affleck (Interstellar) will star in the thriller Villain which was also written by him. Swedish director Mikael Marcimain will direct the film using Affleck’s script.
Villain tells the story of a modern day anti hero, played by Affleck who loses everything after a home invasion. His family dies and he is assumed dead as well because of two bullets to the head but he is able to survive and not only he that he has developed supernatural powers. He has the ability to see people’s past present and feature and with this new ability he goes on a mission of revenge for those who murdered his family as well as to clean up the city in order to find justice in a dark dark world. However, to his fellow citizens he might just be seen as a villain, due to his highly bloody nature and more frequent vigilante acts.
Teddy Schwarzman and Ben Stillman will produce under the Black Bear Pictures label. Black Bear Pictures is known for the 2015 Oscar winner, The Imitation Game. Affleck’s own career is seeing very high success this year. There already has been Oscar buzz that he will be nominated for his performance in the upcoming Manchester By the Sea directed by Kenneth Lonergan. In addition, he recently starred in Triple 9 by John Hillcoat earlier this year.
The director of Villain, Marcimain is a sought after and acclaimed in his own right. He won the International Critic’s Award at the Toronto Film Festival in 2012 for Call Girl. Afterwards, he continued to make more films and TV series including Netflix’s Gentleman And Gangsters mini series which was turned into a feature film in 2014. He was also nominated for an Oscar for Tinker Tailor Solider Spy.
