Carla Gugino is in talks to star in New Line’s San Andreas alongside Dwayne Johnson, reports Variety. Directed by Brad Peyton, the disaster film will follow Gugino and Johnson, as they rescue their daughter, during a monster earthquake.
Produced by Beau Flynn and Village Roadshow, San Andreas is about the effect of “The Big One” in California. “The Big One” is a hypothetical magnitude 8 earthquake, predicted to take place on the San Andreas Fault. To put this into perspective, in 2010, there was a magnitude 7 earthquake in Haiti, resulting in over 200,000 deaths. Seismologists expect an earthquake to erupt along the San Andreas Fault within the next 30 years.
The movie will follow Johnson, playing a special ops firefighter, and Gugino, impersonating his ex-wife, as they travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco. We can only assume that the exes will be brought together, while they rescue their daughter, played by Alexandra Daddario (known for True Detectives).
Gugino can be seen soon, alongside Matt Dillon in Chad Hodge’s Fox television series, Wayward Pines, which is executively produced by M. Night Shymalan. Additionally, Gugino will appear in Stephen Belber’s Match, and is currently filming for Wonjae Lee’s Almost Heroes 3D.
Gugino (Entourage, Night at the Museum, and Sin City) and Johnson (Fast & Furious 6, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and The Scorpion King) have previously worked together in Andy Fickman’s Race To Witch Mountain (2009).
With Gugino on board, San Andreas will be a thriller that is sure to shake the audience to its core.
