Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan is in talks to take part in the upcoming suffragette film The Fury. Very little detail is being given away about the plot, but it will be an ensemble piece that features members of the suffragist movement fighting for women’s right to vote.
The script was penned by Abi Morgan who seems to be on a roll with her movie scripts as of late. She wrote the script for Steve McQueen’s Shame, in which Mulligan played opposite Michael Fassbender, wrote the screenplay for 2011’s The Iron Lady, and wrote the adaptation for Ralph Fiennes’ Charles Dickens film The Invisible Woman, to be released on February 7.
The Fury will be somewhat of a reunion for Morgan and director Sarah Gavron, who directed Morgan’s first screenplay Brick Lane based on a novel by Monica Ali. It will also be a return to what is fast becoming a sort of period sweet spot for Mulligan: the early 1900s.
It’s also worth noting that this shouldn’t be confused with the David Ayer-directed, Brad Pitt-starring World War II movie Fury, which goes into production next month.
There is no news yet of a start date for the politically-charged female drama, but The Fury is being backed by Focus Features and Film 4.
