Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor in Talks for ‘Mortdecai’

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Johnny Depp had found his fill-in for Black Mass in the crime comedy Mortdecai. Now it’s looking like he’ll have company. Both Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor are reportedly in advanced talks to join the picture. No word yet on their roles, but from what little we know of the story so far, we’d not be surprised to see Paltrow as sex-crazy wife, with McGregor either as an MI5 agent or international terrorist who tries to foil Mortdecai’s plans. Check out our previous article on Depp’s attachment for a full summary of the plot and source material.

Though Paltrow certainly won’t be hurting after her roles in the Iron Man movies, the actress could do with a couple additions to her schedule. For the moment, all she has on the docket are the sex-addiction dramedy Thanks for Sharing, long-completed and due in theaters in September, and the Pablo Picasso drama 33 Dias, starring Antonio Banderas as the famed painter, which doesn’t start shooting until early next year.

McGregor has been somewhat busier. August: Osage County and Son of a Gun are already in post production, with the former due out at the end of the year, and he’s currently filming the Natalie Portman western Jane Got A Gun, with Our Kind of Traitor (written by Drive scribe Hossein Amini) and Born to Be King (co-starring Kate Hudson) both moving into production in the coming months.

Add all that up to a “likely” for Paltrow and a “possible” for McGregor. We’ll keep you informed with updates as they come.
