It has been confirmed that Marvel’s long awaited Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson will begin shooting in London and Los Angeles on May 31st. The sequel will not be directed by Captain Marvel original’s Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, but by The Candyman reboot’s Nia DaCosta.
Fleck and Boden have both publicly supported DaCosta taking over the director’s chair from them. Besides Larson, other actors returning include Teyonah Parris, who will play Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Captain Marvel 2 will be set in the present day, as opposed to the first film, which took place in the 1990s, and will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The film ended with Captain Marvel arriving to save the day, complete with a new haircut. The script is written by Megan McDonnell, who is one of WandaVision’s writers. Captain Marvel 2 has a current release date of November 11th, 2022, and is already deep into pre-production.
Similar to many other Marvel films, Captain Marvel 2’s plot is being kept under wraps. All that has been told about the film is that it will explore Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers’ relationship. It is possible that Brie Larson, because she is quite communicative with fans on her social media, there might be more specific details on the shoot being revealed as time goes by.
Another Marvel sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is also confirmed to begin filming in May in London and Atlanta. The film will be directed by Peyton Reed, who directed the previous Ant-Man installments, and the cast of the first two films will be returning as well including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
