Despite a disappointing box office run, grossing $415 million against a budget of $180 million, Captain America: Brave New World has seemingly bounced back on streaming. According to Collider, using data from FlixPatrol, Brave New World ranks #12 on Disney+’s streaming charts since its release on the platform on May 28th.
According to FlixPatrol, the film is also frequently in the top 10 of other digital platforms, such as Amazon and Google, in many territories, including the United States.
Brave New World was the first Captain America movie not to feature Chris Evans in the title, with the role taken over by Anthony Mackie, whose character, Sam Wilson, took over the mantle of Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame and the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The film was a troubled production, with its release being delayed by a year to make room for extensive rewrites of the script and reshoots following negative test screenings. The film’s production was also affected by the 2023 SAGAFTRA strikes. When the film was released on February 14th of this year, it received somewhat mixed reviews, and is currently sitting at a 46% on Rotten Tomatoes.
So, despite being seen as a critical and theatrical disappointment for Marvel Studios, it’s clear that Captain America: Brave New World has made a significant comeback on streaming.
