‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Smashes This Weekend’s Box Office Opening Night With New Projections Sending It Over The $100 Million Mark

This Valentine’s Day weekend saw the release of a new Marvel movie, Captain America: Brave New World, and as expected, the box office is bursting with love for the superhero flick. Its release last night garnered around $12 million, and today’s projections aim for around $39 million. In around 4 days, we can expect to see upwards of $90 million earned as predicted previously.

In addition to Captain America: Brave New World, we also saw a strong performance by Paddington in Peru, which has earned $4.5 million so far. However, with the holiday weekend comes more moviegoers, placing Paddington in Peru’s 4-day projection at over $15 million.

Dog Man continues to perform well. Its weekend projection sits at $10 million, placing its running cumulative earnings at $70 million. Heart Eyes is looking at just under $20 million by the end of the day on Monday if it continues its impressive holding pattern. In fifth place is the Chinese animated movie Ne Zha 2 at $6.5 million in a 4-day span. Although, in China, it sits at a staggering $1.37 billion.

With such great performances from all these films, it will be exciting to see how these numbers develop over the course of the weekend.

UPDATE: As of February 16th, Captain America: Brave New World has surpassed box office expectations. The new projections, per Deadline, now see the film surpassing the $100 million mark. This places Captain America: Brave New World in the top four President’s Day weekend openings of all time. Other films in the top four include: Black PantherDeadpool, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, notably all Marvel properties.
