Tony Todd, the actor behind iconic roles in the Candyman and Final Destination horror series, has died at age 69, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Todd was born in Washington on December 4th, 1954. Before earning a scholarship to the Eugene O’Neill National Theater Institute, Todd studied at the University of Connecticut. He went on to work in what was once the Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, Connecticut, as well as the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.
He made his transition into acting with an appearance in the drama Sleepwalk, released in 1986. This marked the beginning of a career spanning over 200 credits in television and film. Todd is perhaps best remembered as the hook-handed ghoul Candyman in the Candyman horror franchise, which debuted in 1992. He reprised his role in Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995) and the 2021 remake of Candyman. Todd is also known for his portrayal of William Bludworth, a morbid guide for the ill-fated cast of the Final Destination franchise. He acted as Bludworth in the series debut Final Destination (2000), as well as Final Destination 2 (2003) and Final Destination 5 (2011).
New Line Cinema, the production team behind the Final Destination franchise, stated on their Instagram that “The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony -Your Final Destination Family.”
Todd’s additional credits include Night of the Living Dead (1990), The Rock (1996), The Crow (1994, Hatchet (2006), The Man from Earth (2007), Frankenstein (2018), Requiem (2018), and The Bunker (2024). He also made appearances in the Star Trek series as Kurn in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Alpha Hirogen in Star Trek: Voyager.
