Camila Cabello to Star in Kay Cannon ‘Cinderella’ Reimagination

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Grammy nominated singer, Camila Cabello has closed deal to make her acting debut. Cabello will work on a modern reimagination of Cinderella from director Kay Cannon. Cabello is reported to both star and work on the music for the film. Best known for her Billboard No. 1 hit, Havana, the singer will look to establish herself as a Hollywood triple threat.

While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, Cannon has revealed that the film will be a modern adaptation of the iconic Cinderella fairy tale with an evil stepmother, obnoxious step-sisters, and of course a famous lost shoe. The director has also revealed that Cabello’s music will play an integral role in the film.

The original idea for a new version of a modern Cinderella grew from an idea by Late Late Show talk show host, James Corden. Since then, Corden has been a major force producing the film and bringing the picture to life.

Cannon is best known as the scribe on successful comedies, 30 Rock and Pitch Perfect. Cannon made her directorial debut with her 2018 effort Blockers. Sony has picked up the project and is working closely with Cabello, Corden, and Cannon to fast-track the film’s production.
