Filming is officially underway the the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story, a prequel that explores the youth of the iconic character memorably portrayed by Harrison Ford. To celebrate the start of principal photography – which commenced on February 20th at London’s famed Pinewood Studios – a class photo was assembled featuring the cast and directors.
Aldren Ehrenreich, rising young actor who memorably appeared on screens last year in the Coen Brothers’ classic Hollywood tale Hail, Caesar! and Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply, landed the plum role of a youthful Han Solo. Coming with that is a major opportunity – and tremendous pressure – to lead the upcoming film in a role made famous by Ford. Also assembled for the group photo are Donald Glover (who is playing young Lando Calrissian), Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke and two-time Oscar winner Woody Harrelson, each portraying still unspecified roles. Oh, and there’s Chewbacca.
Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, directors behind The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street, are helming the film from a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasden and Jon Kasden. Behind the scenes, current Oscar nominee Bradford Young (Arrival) is making his debut in a galaxy, far far away, serving as cinematographer for the film.
The film hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
