Eli Roth has joined Cassian Elwes, Ike and Jaclyn Ann Suri, and Peter Fruchtman as Executive Producer of the reboot of his 2002 movie Cabin Fever. The original movie was released in September 2002, and ended up grossing $30 million worldwide, with a budget of only $1.5 million.
Directed by Travis Zariwny (Intruder), the reboot will star Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf), Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3), Samuel Davis (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Matthew Daddario (Delivery Man), and Nadine Crocker (Deadgirl). Additionally, Susan Jackson (died on October 14, 2014), who executive produced the original, will receive a “dedicated to” title at the end of the film.
Roth, best known for the 2005 hit movie Hostel, wrote and directed the 2002 Cabin Fever, which follows a group of college students who rent a cabin in the woods to do some partying, but fall victim to a flesh-eating virus as well as additional deadly events. The plan for the reboot is to use the exact same Roth-Randy Pearlstein script that was shot in 2002, and with a cast already in place, it puts the project on the fast track. Shooting begins in Portland, Oregon this week.
When questioned about his interest in this project, Roth said “Travis [Zariwny] had an amazing vision for my original script, and, as a scary movie fan, I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I’m excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They’re all fans of the original, and want to make a film that’s a new classic, and I believe they will,” said Roth.
