Bushwick looks to be not your typical urban warfare film. These kinds of films have been fairly hit or miss with audiences, but Bushwick seems to focus on a healthy blend of seriousness and comedy, as seen in the trailer:
Bushwick begins in a small Brooklyn neighborhood of the same name where Lucy, played by Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect franchise, Hairspray) resides. Suddenly, her neighborhood is attacked by a Texas military force that has declared martial law on all of the United States because of Texas’s successful secession. Lucy teams up with a military man by the name of Stupe, played by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Spectre), where they form an unlikely friendship and fight back with the power of their community against the invaders.
The film features a host of young and upcoming talent, including Christian Navarro (Vinyl, 13 Reasons Why), Arturo Castro (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Broad City), Jeremie Harris (A Walk Among the Tombstones, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn), and Jeff Lima (Cop Out, Mr. Popper’s Penguins). The film is directed by duo Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, who have collaborated on every film they have created.
Bushwick will be storming our neighborhoods on August 25.
