‘Bullet Train’ Is Off To A Slow Start In Box Office

This summer’s action blockbuster movie Bullet Train hit theaters with a rather meager $30.1M opening weekend. Just enough to be on top of the domestic box office but still quite lackluster for Sony Pictures Entertainment considering the film’s $90M production budget.

The film should have had a much bigger impact on the box office given its marketing and the popularity of its genre. Even a Hollywood Star such as Brad Pitt couldn’t help the film attract more audiences on its opening weekend. That being said, the film does have a very wide window in august with few other blockbusters to compete against. The film may still make some revenue if in the following weeks it manages to get in some positive reviews from critics and praising recommendations from viewers.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart’s pet project, pardon the pun, took a bite at this weekend’s box office. DC League of Super-Pets managed to generate a total of $11.2M and take second place. Not a bad result for a children’s animated film, but taking into account its $90M budget the film is yet another financial disaster for Warner Brothers.

Universal Studios’ Pinoy comedy Easter Sunday only made it to 8th position at the box office with a scant $5.3M this weekend. Comedy has had a falling of grace in recent years, the film is one of very few films of its genre being released this summer.

Jordan Peele’s masterful alien suspense movie Nope is staying strong in the box office even after three weeks of its debut. The film landed in third place this week with $8.5M thus bringing its total tally to $97.9M at the domestic box office.

It has been a rather slow weekend at movie theaters. Seeing how the highest-grossing movie barely made it to $30 million should say it all. Check out below the top 8 movies at the box office this weekend:

  1. Bullet Train  $30.1M

  3. Nope $8.5M
  4. Thor: Love and Thunder $7.6M
  5. Minions Rise Of Gru $7.1M
  6. Top Gun Maverick $7M
  7. Where The Crawdads Sing $5.6M
  8. Easter Sunday $5.2M
