Bryan Cranston and James Franco Team Up for Comedy ‘Why Him?’

Bryan Cranston (AMC’s Breaking Bad) has signed on to join James Franco in the upcoming comedy Why Him? for 20th Century Fox. The film marks reunion for the pair, as they recently wrapped production on In Dubious Battle, based on the 1936 John Steinbeck novel, with Franco (True Story) at the helm.

Why Him? is a holiday-set tale, in which a Midwestern father (Cranston) and his family pay a visit to his daughter at college.  Trouble (and hopefully, hilarity) ensues when the dad finds himself competing for his daughter’s attention with her rich, techie boyfriend (Franco).

John Hamburg (Along Came Polly) is attached to direct, with a script he’ll co-write with Ian Helfer (The Oranges). Producers include Shawn Levy and Ben Stiller.

Cranston will next appear in the biopic Trumbo, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before hitting theaters on November 6.  He’ll also lend his voice to the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 3.
