Brooke Shields Describes Experience With Sexual-Assault In ‘Pretty Baby’

Pretty Baby is a new documentary series centered on actress Brooke Shields that digs into the premature sexualization Shields experienced growing up in front of the screen. The series, directed by Lana Wilson, recently premiered at The Sundance Film Festival and will soon be available on Hulu for streaming.

The actress has stated that she always felt protected despite being sexualized. She thinks she escaped the worst scenarios thanks to her protective mother, Teri, who always accompanied her on tours and sets. However, the documentary reveals episodes that insinuate the opposite.

Shields describes in detail an assault she experienced from “an industry insider” when she was in her early 20s. The actress tells about having dinner with this man and later goes to his hotel room to make a call for a cab. Unfortunately, the man attacked her there. Shields describes: “He was right on me. It was just like wrestling” she also adds that at the time, she blamed herself for drinking that day.

The documentary also reveals how the actress felt uncomfortable filming sex scenes being young, for example, in Franco Zeffirelli’s Endless Love. Shields was also encouraged to have an off-screen relationship with her co-star in Blue Lagoon by the producers, despite being a minor at the time.

Pretty Baby has been reviewed positively after its Sundance screening and will be released on Hulu soon.
