Actress Britt Robertson has signed on to accompany Eddie Murphy in his new film Cook, reports Deadline. The young actress will play Charlotte, the daughter of a dying man who hires Henry Church (Murphy) as a cook to care for Charlotte and his girlfriend as he passes. Church is eventually ingrained into the family and remains a part of their lives for the next fifteen years.
Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) is set to direct the story based on the real life experiences of screenwriter Susan McMartin (TV’s Two and a Half Men).
Robertson, who will be seen starring alongside George Clooney (Gravity) in Disney’s Tomorrowland, has until this point enjoyed consistent supporting career, appearing in major films such as Delivery Man with Vince Vaughn, Dan in Real Life with Steve Carrell, and this year’s Cake starring Jennifer Aniston. She has also slowly begun to make her mark as one of young Hollywood’s leading actresses, heading two short-lived CW series – Life Unexpected and The Secret Circle – starring in last year’s teen indie hit The First Time, and soon steering the next Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Longest Ride. Robertson has smartly balanced her career between the two roles of romantic lead and as support to Hollywood heavyweights. If she can successfully stack up next to Eddie Murphy in Cook, her current roll will not be ending any time soon.
