With production of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 starting up soon, more cast members have been revealed, including Brian Tee as the turtles’ archnemesis, Shredder. Tee is actually a recast from 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in which Shredder was played by Tohoru Masamune.
Shredder has been the turtles’ enemy from the very beginning, even appearing in the very first TMNT comic back in 1984, written by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. In the franchise, Shredder is the leader of the Foot Clan, a criminal syndicate that practices a variety of crimes, from assassination to resurrecting the dead and, of course, practicing ninja-style martial arts. With the inclusion of Tyler Perry as the scientist Baxter Stockman (previously covered here), we might postulate that the plot of the film (which has yet to be confirmed) will follow Shredder’s attempts to use Stockman’s Mouser technology to take out Splinter, the turtles’ mentor, and commit other sinister crimes that threaten the turtles’ city.
This is not Brian Tee’s first go-around with a comic book adaptation. He also played a villain in 2013’s The Wolverine, in which he was set to marry the daughter of Yakuza boss. He also recently starred in Furious 7 and will play a ranger named Katashi Hamada in this summer’s Jurassic World.
Alongside Tee and Perry, the cast includes Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, and Alessandria Ambrosio. It is directed by Dave Green and produced by Michael Bay, as one of the leading properties of Paramount following the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2014. It is also being produced through Nickelodeon Movies.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set for release on June 3, 2016.
