Radio Silence, the directing duo behind horror-comedy Ready or Not, and more recently the Scream sequels of the 2020s, have been announced to helm a new installment in the world of Universal Pictures’ The Mummy franchise. Stars of the 1999 original and its 2001 sequel, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, are returning to lead the upcoming film.

Radio Silence is made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, whose other projects include Abigail (2024), another Universal Monsters-inspired film, as well as an upcoming Ready or Not sequel titled Here I Come, starring frequent collaborator Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream VI) alongside genre favorites Kathryn Newton (Abigail) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (I Know What You Did Last Summer).

Regarding the upcoming Mummy film, it has yet to be announced who else from the original films could return, but one source described the project as a sequel instead of a reboot. The film would ignore the events of the third film released in 2008, in which Weisz was not present for. Universal has yet to comment on the details of the project.

The news of a new Universal Mummy film comes after an announcement earlier this year that Jason Blum and James Wan, under their respective Blumhouse and Atomic Monster production companies, are producing their own Mummy project with New Line Cinema. The film is slated for an April 2026 release and will be directed by Evil Dead Rise’s Lee Cronin.

Ready or NotHere I Come is also set to come out in April of next year. Radio Silence’s Mummy sequel is still likely in pre-production with no set release date. For more updates, watch this space.
