This December, audiences will be given a chance to step back into a world of pure imagination. A new trailer for Wonka, the next feature from Paddington director, Paul King, has been released.
Set as a prequel to Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, Wonka focuses on a younger version of the charismatic chocolate creator trying to find his footing to establish himself as a mainstay in the candy industry.
Played by Timothée Chalamet this time around, the young star opened up to Vogue about why he took the role in the first place. “To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy. That’s why I was drawn to it,” he said. “In a time and climate of intense political rhetoric, when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate.”
Alongside Chalamet is Hugh Grant, playing Lofty, the first Oompa-Loompa that Willy meets. Throughout the trailer, the original Oompa-Loompa motif can be heard whenever Lofty is in the forefront, adding to the first trailer’s immense homage to the 1971 classic. The film also stars Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, and Jim Carter, among others.
Wonka opens in theaters on December 15th. Check out the brand new trailer below.
