Since it was announced, fans have been eagerly waiting for any news from James Gunn and the crew at DC Studios to reveal news on the upcoming Superman sequel, Man Of Tomorrow. They may have just gotten the biggest reveal since the film’s confirmation, as it’s now set in stone that the Man of Steel will be facing none other than his classic villain, Brainiac.
In Superman earlier this year, Superman had to go head-to-head with his most iconic nemesis, Lex Luthor. By the film’s end, Superman managed to get the better of Luthor, locking him up and putting an end to his schemes.
Upon the confirmation of Man Of Tomorrow, James Gunn, David Corenswet (Superman), and Nicholas Hoult (Luthor) posted photos to their social media of Supes and Luthor, seemingly getting along, suggesting the film will see them team up against a common foe.
Brainiac was always a popular contender for an expected villain, but Collider noted that fan speculation went up even further when Gunn shared a photo of the script with the cover page sporting a brain diagram. All signs pointed to Brainiac, but now The Wrap was able to confirm that he will in fact be the main antagonist of Man Of Tomorrow.
Although one of Superman’s most iconic foes, this is the first time Brainiac will be appearing on film. In past iterations, the presence of the character, who has had several different origins over the years, has caused both heroes and villains to band together. Several stories in the past have even depicted both Superman and Lex working together to defeat him.
Man Of Tomorrow hits theaters July 2027.
